Grande Albergo Maugeri. Taormina
Taormina has been a very popular and the most covet tourist destination since the 19th century.
Visit the
Greek–Roman Theatre and the charm of its really good soundness and acustics, its architectural structure and the gorgeous panoramic view on Mount Etna, the city of Giardini Naxos and Calabria Mountains. It was built by the Greeks and completely rebuilt by the Romans. With a diameter of 109 metres, this theatre is the second largest of its kind in Sicily (after that of Syracuse); at the eastern side of its cavea there are the remains of a little temple and an Antiquarium. Nowadays it is frequently used for theatrical performances and for concerts.
Corso Umberto (Umberto Street) with its majestic Porta Messina and Porta Catania (Messina and Catania's Doors). Along it you can admire
Corvaja Palace, which housed the first Sicilian Parliament in 1411, with its superb crowned façade, arched windows and doorways. Next to it there is the
Cathedral, which, dedicated to Saint Nicolò and built in the 13th century, has a gorgeous façade with a portal, lancets and a rose window. In the churchyard you see a wonderful
Baroque fountain at the top of which there is a woman-bull, one of the araldic symbles of Taormina. The Roman terrace which has a gorgeous panoramic view is called "Le Naumachie".
