Trapani Salt Pans are along the "Stagnone" lagoon and belong to the nature riserve of "Riserva naturale orientata di Trapani e Paceco". It is characterized by bright white salt piles, got from the sea water by using solar and windy power. The excursion you can go on by booking is a tour through tanks, channels and mills, hearing the sound of the sea waves, wind and seagulls. The Riserva houses a Salt Museum made up of traditional equipment for salt-culture, such as shovels, baskets, bats and wheelbarrows. All year round you can visit the Museum, but remember that the salt production cycle lasts from March till September. Visit the 15th century mill of "Ettore and Infersa Salt Pans". The region is characterized by "sea endemica calendula" and the "Fungo di Malta" (Malta Mushroom), a rare parasite plant.
