Grande Albergo Maugeri. Entertaiment
The east coast of Sicily from Catania to Acireale offers a vast gamma of activities which satisfy the needs not only of sports lovers but also those who prefer a gentle walk along the nature paths or spend their time in less energetic pastimes!
Fishing & Tourism
The sea in this area is teeming with a wide variety of fish, crustaceans and shell fish, which are then of course the base for many local dishes. At a depth of 70-80 metres, you can find White Sea Bream, Saddled Bream, Giltheads, Dentex, Salps and Eels. At a depth of 20-25metres the sea is populated by Octopus and a multitude of coloured flora and fauna, and at 40 metres lives the undisputed queen of the sea, the Sea-Bass.
Photography
The island offers a myriad of backgrounds for your creative work; incomparable landscapes, seascapes, unique traditions and festivals, and a wealth of monuments and architectural wonders of the ancient world are all amazing sources of inspiration for the amateur and professional photographer alike.
There are various events of particular interest to the photographer, for example in Acitrezza at the beginning of July there is The International Week of Underwater Images, an exhibition and competition which also promotes the protected marine reserve.
Sailing
Sailing is tranquil silence, and the slow pace of navigation, a continual confrontation with the sea, the wind, the sun, the sea.
A land with a great history and great navigators, thanks to Sicily's strategic position, nautical tourism is slowly gaining ground on the island, aided by the recent creation of a tourist port at Riposto. But sailing is not only a sport, its also a state of mind... easy and relaxed. There's room for enthusiasts who can actively participate in navigating a sailing boat, but also for those who prefer to relax and enjoy the sun and the sea, stretched out on the deck.
Trekking
Trekking in Sicily is for those who love a challenge, and who are looking for wandering paths of exceptional beauty. There are countless routes and paths on which expert and careful guides can take lovers of this kind of activity.
Of particular geological interest, there are various grottos and mini craters, for example the grotto del Gelo at a height of 2400, famous for its small glacier, the furthest south in Europe.
Mountain bike
Peddle along remote paths in countryside distant from the fast pace, sounds and smells of the city.
Enta's Nature Park lends itself well to both expert bikers and beginners. Particularly noteworthy is the route which allows you to visit the grotto of running lava, the Raspberry Grotto and the Wood Pigeon Grotto.
Skiing on Etna
Ski cross country among the pines and birches through breathtaking scenery, this bracing activity allows you to sweep across the whole beauty of the park.
