For those who love lights, colours and a joyous atmosphere, Acireale hosts one of the most beautiful carnivals in Italy.

In the 18th century  the carnival  became part of local folklore, thanks to the exhibitions of the local people who improvised poetry competitions in dialect.

In the 19th century the event took on a more refined feel, with elegantly designed floats parading down the streets, and with the people on board dressed in costume.

Since then the carnival has become an important tourist attraction and source of entertainment.
